The Facility – Page 2

Here’s page 2!

She finally walked out of her room wearing the same black uniform as I was. Aaron was wearing a white one. Every year, we got to choose between a black or a white uniform. I personally chose the black one because it would be easier to clean. Kloud just liked the black one more in general.

We walked in the direction of the cafeteria to get there before the morning alarm rang to wake us all up. The cafeteria would be closed, but that wouldn’t be a problem. As long as we were there, that’s all that mattered.

We were still talking when the alarm went off. The doors to the cafeteria opened automatically, and we walked in. As usual, there was a wide variety of foods there to eat, but nobody serving them. We had to serve ourselves, which was fine by me.

There actually weren’t adults of any sort here. There were kids here who could clean easily, and did so regularly. There were kids who could do basically everything that we needed. The rest of us usually just wandered around. We were completely contained in this facility with no exits. There was a door leading to the outside, but even that area was contained. We had all given up on finding a way out.

While we were eating, I noticed another person walking in my direction. While this facility was huge, everybody here all knew each other vaguely. I didn’t recognize him. He stopped next to me and cleared his throat awkwardly.

“Hey, uh, are you Paige?” I nodded as a response. “Great,” he glanced anxiously at my friends. “Can we talk outside?”

I was done with my food anyway, so I left with him. When we got outside, we walked all the way to the barrier outside. It was surprisingly cold outside. I crossed my arms anxiously, wishing I brought Kloud with me.
