I’m well aware that it’s been a week or two since my last post, but that’s because there hasn’t been much noteworthy going on in my life. I mean, there has, but nothing that I’d be comfortable sharing on the internet. (Yay, privacy!)
I’ll be completely honest, this post is mostly to write about something that isn’t the fictional story I’ve been working on for the past few months. I want to write about the story instead of write the story, if that makes any sense, so that’s what this post is for.
The story that I’m writing will eventually be heavily cropped to become a speech when the speech season comes up. Originally the story was going to be about a princess, Odalia, and her guard, Pierre, who would work together to find a way for Odalia to escape her tiring life. It was originally going to end with Odalia saying something along the lines of, “The throne you worship is made of lies!”
Eventually, though, I realized that making that into a ten minute speech with an easily comprehensible plot line was a little bit more than I could handle. So what did I do? I gave Odalia trauma instead! I completely redid the plot line, so now it’s something more along the lines of Odalia’s father dies due to poison and only she and Pierre know. They are working quietly to figure out who the traitor amongst the staff is, and slowly fall in love with one another along the way.
So far I’ve managed to write 41 pages, and at most I might be 2/3 of the way done with the story. This by far isn’t the longest story I’ve ever written (My max is 73 pages), but this so far is the best plot that I feel I’ve written. I do plan on sharing this story somewhere once I finish and edit it, but I’m not sure if I’m going to post it here or somewhere else. So far my goal has just been to finish the story before I start thinking about it too much.
This is also the first time in a while that I’ve written a story in third person perspective. Usually I opt for first person past tense, but it made more sense for formatting it into a speech that I’d write it in third person. I also think it gave me a better way to explore the different character’s personalities and develop them both.
I think that’s all I have for right now regarding that story. I will update here if I plan on posting it here or not, but I’m choosing not to think about that until I finish the story.
