Perfect Society

For english, we’re currently reading The Giver. It’s an amazing book, and I read it in 3rd or 4th grade. One of the questions that we have to reflect on as we read the book is “Is it possible to create a perfect society?”

I personally don’t believe that it is possible to create a perfect society. We can progress this society further, sure, to make it better, but it’d never be perfect.

In order for a society to be perfect, everybody within that society would have to have the same ideals and images of what a perfect society is. Even if for some magical reason, that was possible, there would always be those people who question why the rules are there.

I think that in order to have a perfect society, we would have to have multiple societies. That way, if you don’t want to be within the society that you were born in or currently live in, you could move somewhere else.

That way, when Kevin asks you why it’s illegal to murder people, you can just say, “Well, Kevin, if you don’t like it here, why don’t you go to this other society where it is legal to murder people? I’ll see you in a few months, if you’re still alive!” (I deeply apologize to any Kevins I may have offended, Kevin was just the first name I came up with.)

Essentially, I think that a perfect society only if we would be able to create multiple perfect societies. Even then, now that I’m thinking about it, there would probably be a bunch of wars between the societies. Maybe just forget that whole plan. Maybe there simply is no way to create a perfect society.

Anyways, I’m going to publish this before I read it and decide to delete the whole thing 🙂
